Patent war: BlackBerry attack Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp
The Canadian firm accuses Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp to have copied the technology and functionality of BlackBerry Messenger. BlackBerry has decided to lodge a complaint against Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp for violation of patents related to its messaging technology. The company blamed Facebook and its two subsidiaries to have exploited many of its safety innovations, UI, encoding and notifications. "Protect shareholder assets and intellectual property is the job of every CEO," said a spokeswoman for BlackBerry. The company has a portfolio of 40,000 patents on technologies of operating system, network infrastructure, messaging, of cyber-security, wireless communications, from beneath vehicle systems or acoustic. The complaint against Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp follows several years of negotiations, and BlackBerry advertising today damages whose amount is not specified.
