The German Parliament, under the Fancy Bear group
The news was revealed by local media, based on sources within the German intelligence services. This attack has been ongoing for more than a year.According to the DPA News Agency, a cybercriminal group would be able to seep into a central computer system of the German Federal administration. This network, known as the "Berlin Bonn information network" is an important network for the German administration. It is notably used by both houses of Parliament, but also by the Chancery, the Court of Auditors, the departments as well as the Chancery and the German security services.
Attack would have been detected by German intelligence towards the end of the year 2017. But as the world, the Group cyber criminal responsible for the intrusion could have penetrated the network for more than a year. Few details have been given on the exact nature of this intrusion or its starting point
is currently still in progress and the security services are working to solve the problem.
The Interior Ministry confirmed "that an investigation was underway about a security incident on the information network of the federal State" and that it was considered to be "high priority."
It is still a little early to move forward on the award, but the DPA agency evokes his side an attack from the Group APT28 (also known under the names of Fancy Bear, Pawn Storm, Sednit, Sofacy, STRONTIUM, Tsar Team and others), a well known group in the the computer security world.
It has notably been pointed the finger in several hackings have targeted institutions or sensitive organizations in recent years: the attack having targeted TV5 Monde, but also those who have covered the Democratic convention at the margin of the election Presidential American or piracy of the computer network ofthe Bundestag in 2015. The group is usually described as being close to Russian intelligence, although the Russia had always denied being linked with this
group of cybercriminals.
